Road Closure - South Fork Road (updated 10.11.2019)

The South Fork Wilson Road (the one that runs through Lyda Camp and up towards Woods Point) is CLOSED between the 3.5 mile marker and the 4 mile marker for public safety.  This closure will be in effect seven days per week for several months.

This closure is being made so that the Woods Way timber sale can conduct timber falling and cable yarding activities in close proximity to the road without risking public safety due to debris or logs rolling onto the road surface.

There are temporary gates installed on either side of the closure area.  Please do not enter this area if the gates are open.  This area is restricted to entry by the logging contractor and by Oregon Department of Forestry employees only.

Jordan Creek Road Closure 9/13/19

Jordan Creek Road will be closed at the 1 mile on Friday, September 13, from 7:00-5:00pm. The closure is necessary due to road work.

Jordan Creek Road will be closed at milepost 2.5 July 29 to August 1 for bridge replacement. Milepost 2.5 is located just passed the Jordan Creek OHV Campground. The bridge at the junction of Jordan Creek and South Jordan Creek Road will be replaced.

SAFETY ALERT - Secure Your Valuables When Visiting the Forest

Please take the time to secure your belongings when you leave your car or campsite. 

There has been a rash of gas can thefts in the Browns Camp area over the last few days and some vehicle break-ins at various trailheads adjacent to Highway 6 over the past few months.

The couple of minutes you spend putting things in the trunk of your vehicle or cable locking them to your trailer, picnic table or vehicle can save you time and money in the long run.

If you do experience theft of belongings while visiting the Tillamook State Forest, please contact law enforcement when you are in cell phone range and file a report.

Browns Camp - Well is Open

The Browns Camp Well is OPEN.

The well hand pump at Browns Camp will be back in service on Friday, June 28, 2019. 

All maintenance to the pump mechanism has been completed and the well / water meets all Oregon Department of Health drinking water standards.

Raven Ridge Trail Closure

The popular Raven Ridge gravity assisted mountain bike trail in the Reehers Camp area is CLOSED to all public use due to timber sale and road construction activity taking place along the trail route.

Lake Tahoe Closure Summer 2019

Access to the Lake Tahoe Recreation Site in the Tillamook State Forest will be closed starting May 28 to ensure public safety during construction and logging operations.

The area will be closed through the summer of 2019 and affects all day use and weekend activities, including fishing, boating and hiking access to Lake Tahoe as well as two campsites in the South Fork Trask River Dispersed Campsites area. The road into the Lake Tahoe Recreation Site will be closed. 

The South Fork Trask Road will be open but the public should use caution, as the road will be busy with log hauling.

Activities taking place in the area during summer 2019 include logging operations and developing a heliport. The heliport will allow use of the lake as a dip site for fire protection.

“Temporarily closing Lake Tahoe to recreational use is a necessary step to ensure public safety,” Tillamook District Forester Kate Skinner said. “We are encouraging users of the Tillamook State Forest to find alternate recreation areas this summer, and visiting the recreation page on the ODF website is a great way to find additional places to get out in the forest.”

Volunteers Clean It ALL Up!

April 20th was a welcome gorgeous day after the spring rains.  The volunteers who gathered at the ODOT Sandshed were energized by the sun and that energy made the Forest Grove District’s 2019 SOLVE Day Clean-up held on Saturday, April 20^th a resounding success.  

Thank-you to everyone who participated.  It's obvious, Tillamook State Forest Volunteers ROCK!

At the end of the day 3 ODF staff members working with a group of 80 volunteers from a bunch of different clubs and organizations removed over 8,000 pounds of garbage (about 40 cubic yards) and 162 tires from the Tillamook State Forest in just under 4 hours!  Additionally, the spring spruce up of Stagecoach horse camp was completed including the removal of brush and installation of 6 bollard posts.

     Several small appliances

     3 vehicle dash boards

     A bunkbed frame

   10 bags of shotgun shells from  the Beaver Dam Rock Pit

  Tons of items that had been used for targets

Spring Spruce-Up Success!

Thank-you to all 80 of the fantastic volunteers who came together on Saturday, March 30, 2019, to do a spring trail maintenance work party on the non-motorized trail network that meanders through the eastern half of the Tillamook State Forest!

These enthusiastic volunteers completed pruning of trees and trail side vegetation, removal of down trees, cleaning of water drainage structures and general tread maintenance on 10 miles of the trail network in four hours of work time.  

After the work was done, volunteers returned to Gales Creek Campground to enjoy a BBQ lunch hosted by Daybreak Racing and Oregon Equestrian Trails.  There were even raffle prizes donated by some of the work party partners.

Plans are already in the works to make this Spring Spruce-Up an annual event to kick off the Oregon Department of Forestry work party season.  (Check out the volunteer tab for the 2019 trail work party schedule.)

OHV Trail Wet Weather Riding

Now that the snow is subsiding, we’re starting to see people emerging from their homes and getting out to enjoy the OHV trails. With the highly saturated soils it’s a good time to consider the impact of riding on the trails in such conditions.  When the dirt gets as saturated, it doesn’t hold together like it does when it’s dry. Add to that equation a spinning rear tire or a 450 with a heavy throttle hand at the helm and the trails start to break down quickly, especially on those challenging up hills that the Tillamook State Forest is known for.

This is a good time of the year to consider which trails you ride and which direction you ride them. On wet days go down your favorite hill climb rather than going up. If a trail is already rutted, choose an alternate route. A little planning can go a long way in saving the trails from turning into a maintenance nightmare.

Get out and enjoy the trails. Make good trail decisions and enjoy the ride!

Diamond Mill Road Closure

Starting Friday, February 8, 2019, Diamond Mill Road will be closed at the 2.0 mile due to logging operations. The closure will last approximately one month.
