Effective Thursday, September 3, 2026 - Fire Danger Levels Change

Regulated Use Remains in Effect.

The following changes to the Fire Danger Level are in effect as of 12:01 AM on Thursday, 09/03/2026. 

Fire Danger for Public Use Restrictions:

NW-1 at BLUE / MODERATE

NW-2 at BLUE / MODERATE

NW-3 at BLUE / MODERATE

In Moderate Fire Danger, OHV trails in the Tillamook and Clatsop State Forests are open without time restrictions.

Industrial Fire Precaution Levels (IFPLs):

NW-1 at IFPL 1

NW-2 at IFPL 1

NW-3 at IFPL1

Please remember that the use of incendiary ammunition such as tracer rounds or "Dragon's Breath" shells is prohibited on ODF protected lands during fire season and that the use of exploding targets is prohibited year-round in Oregon's State Forests.

North Fork Wolf Creek Shooting Lanes Temporarily Closed

The North Fork Wolf Creek Shooting Lanes are temporarily closed for maintenance, upgrades and fire mitigation. 

Please keep an eye on the target shooting section of the blog for updates and thank you for your patience. 

 

Effective at 12:01 AM on Monday, July 20, 2026 the Fire Danger Level that governs public use activity in the Tillamook and Clatsop State Forests changed to the following:

NW1: Moderate / Blue

NW2: High / Yellow

NW3: High / Yellow

In High / Yellow Fire Danger, the OHV trails in the Tillamook and Clatsop State Forests closed between 1pm and 8pm.

Regulated Use and Fire Season remain in effect.

Fire Danger Levels Change to Moderate

Effective tomorrow, Friday, June 15, 2026 the Fire Danger Level that governs public use activity in the Tillamook and Clatsop State Forests changed to the following:

NW1: Moderate / Blue

NW2: Moderate / Blue

NW3: Moderate / Blue

In Moderate / Blue Fire Danger, the OHV trails in the Tillamook and Clatsop State Forests are open for riding all day.

Regulated Use and Fire Season remain in effect.

Fire Season for Tillamook State Forest Begins on Monday June 15th

ODF's Forest Grove, Tillamook & Astoria Districts will enter Fire Season and Regulated Use on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 12:01 AM.  The following restrictions will be in effect at that time:

IFPLs:

• NW-1:  IFPL 1
• NW-2:  IFPL 1
• NW-3:  IFPL 1

Fire Danger:

• NW-1:  LOW
• NW-2:  LOW
• NW-3:  LOW

At High Fire Danger, all OHV trails on the Tillamook State Forest are closed to riding from 1pm to 8pm.

All State Forest Campgrounds Open!

 All campgrounds on the Tillamook, Clatsop, and Santiam State Forests have now officially opened for the 2026 season.

As the season progresses, please continue to check the blog and ODF Recreation Page for updates on any seasonal closures for forest operations or permitted events.

Seasonal developed campgrounds will close on October 5th and seasonal OHV campgrounds will close on October 31st.

OHV Campgrounds Open on the Tillamook State Forest

Browns Camp and Jordan Creek Campgrounds on the Tillamook State Forest have now officially opened for the 2026 season.

Other primitive OHV camping and staging areas, such as Cedar Creek Designated Dispersed Sites, Lyda Camp, South Fork Trask, and Jordan Creek Designated Dispersed Camping Areas, are also open.

Diamond Mill OHV Campground, after being closed for upgrades, is also now open again!

Diamon Mill OHV Area Temporarily Closed

Diamond Mill OHV Area will be close starting Monday 2/23/26 for approximately 3 weeks. 

During this closure, improvements will be made to the facility as it is converted into a full campground.

      2.25 mi inbound from Keenig Creek CG / 4 mi inbound from Footbridge TH

 Rogers Road / Gales Creek Day Use and Trailhead Reopened to the Public!

Rogers Road leading into the Gales Creek Day Use Area and Trailhead will be reopened to the public today (1/16/26) at 10:00AM as the Highway 6 road work has completed and both lanes of traffic are now open.

Rogers Road leading into the Gales Creek Day Use Area and Trailhead will be temporarily closed while ODOT completes repair work on the Highway 6 slide. Estimated closure time: 2 weeks. 

Christmas Trees

Happy Holidays!

Thanks to everyone who has called to start the Holiday Season off on the right foot by checking to see if Christmas tree cutting is allowed on State Forests.  We really appreciate everyone working to "do the right thing" on State Forest lands.

Oregon's State Forests don't issue permits for or allow cutting of Christmas trees.  There are great opportunities to cut your own Christmas trees on most National Forests and at local Christmas tree farms.

Mushrooms & Wildlife Don't Care About Fashion

The arrival of autumn finds the Tillamook State Forest filled with the brilliant reds, oranges and yellows of maples and alders donning their fall finery.  Autumn also brings out hundreds of visitors who engage in activities such as foraging for mushrooms or hunting for game that take them off of the beaten path into the brush.

If your recreation activities take you off of established roads, please consider the following safety tips:

Does someone know where you are?  If you head out to the woods, let someone know where you are going and when you plan on returning and don't deviate from your plans. That way, if there is an emergency that prevents you from returning home, you can be sure folks know where to start looking for you.

Safety orange is not just for game hunters.  High visibility clothing is your friend whether you are traveling on a designated trail, hunting for deer, fishing a remote stream or foraging for mushrooms.  It makes you visible not just to your fellow visitors but to search teams as well.

Don't block access for others. Please do not park in front of locked gates. Locked gates on public land don't mean that no one will be using the road systems behind them.  Forestry staff, loggers, road builders and law enforcement partners may be working behind and out of sight of that locked gate - weekdays and weekends.

Can you survive the night?  Carry food and water with you whenever you are in the woods even if you only plan on being in the woods for a few hours or away from your vehicle for a short time.  Temperatures can vary wildly during the early days of autumn so taking an extra layer with you when you head into the woods can be a lifesaver.

How's your whistle?  Most foresters carry a whistle with them at all times when they are crashing through the brush.  The sound of a whistle will carry farther than the human voice and can be used alert people to your presence.

Shelter in place.  If you do get turned around when you are out in the woods the best thing you can do is to stay in one place.  It's easier to find someone when they remain stationary.

And finally, keep a good thought.  Your best friend in planning and enjoying a forest visit or in working through an emergency situation is a positive attitude.

All Fire Season and Public Use Restrictions for all weather zones (NW1, NW2, and NW3) in this area are rescinded at that time.
